THE OSINT PROCESS/Cycle

Planning and Direction - The first step in the OSINT process includes planning the priorities and requirements of the mission. Before starting an OSINT investigation, the investigator must have a clear understanding of what type of information they need to find, an approach to finding that information, and what they will be doing with the information they gathered. By doing so, we will guarantee finding more detailed information and better productivity and efficiency.

Source Identification - In this step, we identify and locate the potential information sources. This step becomes very easy once you got familiar with most of the osint techniques and tools otherwise it will be very difficult for a beginner. The more experienced you are, the lesser time you will take identify information sources.

Data Collection - This step includes gathering relevant information from the identified sources. Once proper planning and source identification is done, the collection of OSINT begins. OSINT resources include any material that is freely available like news articles, social media posts, blogs, etc, and paid ones too like spokeo email search.

Data Processing - Once you gathered all the data using the identified sources and use the gathered data for further investigations; you can start processing the information. In this step, you will simplify the data you have found and will store/compile it in a single repository or in a report.

Analysis - After the initial processing of the collected data, your teams will then need to perform an in-depth analysis of the information. This is a crucial step in the OSINT cycle. We will organize the analyzed information into a detailed document or presentation.

Reporting - The final step in the OSINT cycle entails delivering the collected and analyzed intelligence to the proper stakeholders. Analysts then receive feedback, which dictates whether the OSINT cycle should begin again.
